Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This highly successful book has been called the most comprehensive text on the market, providing students with needed career theory as well as practical techniques and examples. Through the author's clear writing style, case examples, tables, and exercises, students develop a solid understanding of the theoretical models of career counseling and are thoroughly exposed to the practical information on how to effectively counsel clients about career issues. As demonstrated by the text's new subtitle, 'A Holistic Approach,' this substantially revised Seventh Edition reflects the growing emphasis on looking at the whole person"--values, temperament, talents, and passions--to determine his or her best career fit."

2 out of 5 stars Endless Citations: Millions of trees but no forest.   March 8, 2010

I have been teaching Career Counseling for years and finally decided to try the Zunker text. What a mistake. Yes, it is comprehensive. But it is written like a bad lit review. Endless citations of research with little synthesis. It is hard for students to see the big picture! I will stick with the Niles/Harris-Bowlsbey text (Career Development Interventions in the 21st Century) for my Career Counseling course, and the Sharf text (Applying Career Development Theory to Counseling) for more advanced courses in Vocational Theory.

This textbook by Zunker is ideal for those studying to be career counselors. It is also beneficial for those currently working as career counselors that come across clients with unique career issues. It has the potential to be an excellent career counseling reference book.

3 out of 5 stars A Little Too Slow...   August 12, 2009

I ordered this book hoping that I'd get it before I needed to take my final. Usually when I have ordered Amazon products in the past, it has taken no more than a week to arrive, this one took almost a full 2 weeks to arrive which was too late for me to use the book. I guess it was a risk I took since the disclaimer is up to 15 business days before delivery... :o/
